For the past few weeks I’ve been testing out a new lip balm infused with cannabis sativa seed oil, also known as hemp seed oil. If there’s one beauty product I use every day without fail, its lip balm, especially in the winter months when chapped lips are more prone to occur.  The Medline Remedy Phytoplex lip balm is a lifesaver. Its super hydrating and contains a bunch of natural ingredients that help to heal your lips and keep them moisturized all day and all winter long.

The Medline Remedy Phytoplex lip balm smells amazing. It smells like mangoes and oranges. It glides on smoothly and leaves a pleasant tingly feeling on the lips when applied. It’s not sticky and doesn’t leave behind any gross residue hours after application like certain other lip balm brands. For example, EOS lip balm leaves a white residue that builds up in the corners of the lips after a few hours. I often found myself wiping it off in disgust before re-applying. The Medline Remedy Phytoplex lip balm doesn’t have that issue. No wiping necessary. Just reapply when you feel dry!

Some of the ingredients in the lip balm include mango seed butter, sunflower seed oil, jojoba oil, rosemary leaf extract, meadow foam seed oil, and aloe vera. This mixture of oils and extracts along with the hemp seed oil provide nourishment, protection, and intense hydration for the lips.

Hemp seed oil, although containing little to no THC or CBD, is incredibly beneficial for the body due to its high fatty acid content. It helps to reduce inflammation and boost the immune system. The oil also helps to relieve dry skin and reduce itchiness, making it great for those with skin conditions like eczema. Hemp seed oil is beneficial to the lips because it contains emollient. It has a high level of omega fatty acid and linoleic acid. The two are important nutrients for cellular health and they are key ingredients in the cells that make up the outer layer of our skin.

Mango seed butter is used for a variety of things like calming bug bites, keeping skin plump and youthful, treating dry skin, reducing scaring, and even moisturizing hair. It contains a good amount of Vitamin C and is very soothing and healing. Sunflower seed oil has properties similar to hemp seed oil. Its anti-inflammatory properties help to reduce redness, it contains a good amount of Vitamin E, and it is high in fatty acids that help in the development of new skin cells.

Jojoba oil is so beneficial for lip care because it is rich in fatty acids. It is full of oleic, lignoceric, and gondoic acid, all of which provide great hydration for the skin. And when they are applied on a regular basis, they can heal dry and chapped lips. Jojoba oil also acts as a barrier to protect your lips from the wind and cold temperatures. It protects them from dry, indoor heat, which can make lips rough and uncomfortable.

Rosemary leaf extract is another ingredient that works to protect the lips. It helps protect from damage caused by the sun. Rosemary also has natural antiseptic properties, making it a superior disinfectant. It is rich in antioxidants and has great moisturizing abilities as well. Meadowfoam seed oil is used to treat chapped lips. This oil is yet another antioxidant with moisturizing abilities. It’s a slightly waxy oil like jojoba oil that closely resembles human sebum. It locks in moisture, delivers nutrients deep into the skin, and protects skin.

Lastly, aloe vera is used as a healing agent for chapped lips. It provides a cool, soothing relief to the damaged skin. This explains the lovely tingling sensation I feel when using the Medline Remedy Phytoplex lip balm.

Overall, I really like this lip balm and will continue using it until it’s completely empty. I like how my lips feel when using it and really enjoy the smell as well. My lips feel soft and moisturized. I may not go back to using traditional Chapstick ever again. I recommend you give this product a try, especially if you suffer from dry, chapped lips in the winter.
